The two games are seperate if you buy them seperately but you can connect them if you wish to so do.

Example: You buy GW Factions and install it. This will give you 4 character slots and enable you to play in Cantha (Factions). However you will not be able to access the original GW Prophecies (Tyria).

If you later buy GW Prophecies then you have two choices:
1. Create New Account
2. Add Access Key

Both options are on the logon screen.

If you choose to Create New Account you can add the new key as a seperate account (with a second email address to log on). This will give you 4 new haracter slots and enable you to play in Tyria (Prophecies).
However you will not be able to access Cantha with these 4 characters - the two games are seperate.

If you choose to Add Access Key then you will gain another additional *two* character slots - six in total - on your original account. However all 6 characters will have access to both Cantha and Tyria.

Note that once you have used a key for either option you cannot undo your choice unless you hassle ANet a lot and they feel in a good mood.

So the choice is either two seperate games with 4 characters in each or one joined game sharing six characters.

but to play the expansion Factions, do I need the orignal Guild Wars (the one that came out before a Year)?, and if I buy the expansion Faction, am I only able to play the stuff thats on availible to a Assassin?, and when I buy the other version I can play as a Ritualist and play the stuff thats availilble for them? and when I have both I can play both, but what I dont get if I have Factions, can I access the orignal GW, (like Lions Arch, and the other towns?)

thanks for answer

They both run the same client. The only thing you're buying when you buy Factions is basically the CD/access key. They both run off the same client.

If you purchase factions, you can make any of the professions of characters, including assassin/ritualist, but you will only be able to access Cantha and Canthan quests. You will not be able to transfer over to Tyria or Lion's Arch.

You will have to purchase a CD/access key from both Prophecies and Factions in order to play in both worlds with all characters, etc, etc...

I hope this is somewhat helpful.

It's easier to do than explain.

It's not like a patch or expansion in a battlefield 2 kind of way.

Like sryis says it just unlocks the new country. It doesn't matter which order you buy them in. The creators (arenanet) designed it that way.

So buy factions to play Cantha country. Buy Original GW to play Tyria.

The assassin and ritualist can only be created in Cantha country but can travel to Tyria to play there afterwards (if you buy the original)

The main point is u can buy them seperately its just if u buy 1 and dont combine it u only get 4 characters and both the parts u cant get into either world unless u have both
