TERA, also known as The Exiled Realm of Arborea is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game, developed by blueholestudio and published by En Masse Entertainment in the US and Frogster Interactive in the EU. TERA was released on the 25th of January 2011 in Korea, 1st of May in the United States, and 3rd of May in Europe. It features a unique combat system, questing, player-versus-player combat, player-versus-environment combat as well as crafting.

TERA will have typical MMORPG features such as quests, crafting, and player versus player action. Combat uses a "real-time battle system" that incorporates third person camera view. The player targets an enemy with a cross-hair cursor rather than clicking or tabbing an individual opponent (this is called the "Non-Target battle system" by the publisher). Players must actively dodge enemy attacks.The player may use keyboard and mouse or a control pad to control their character.

The developers collaborated with CCP Games and their successful use of "PLEX" for Eve Online as a way of deterring gold farmers. As a result, TERA will have a currency called "Chronoscrolls" which works similarly as it allows game time to be purchased with real money and sold for in-game gold

The time to reign in TERA is upon us! Starting May 18, guild leaders who wish to declare their candidacy for a vanarch position, can. What is a vanarch? Vanarchs are an integral part of TERA's political system. This is an elected position that lets you reign over an entire province for three weeks. Elected vanarchs can collect taxes from vendor shops, set tax rates, decide which specialty shops to open in a province, and gain fame for themselves as well as their guilds. Vanarchs will be known across the realm—hopefully for good reasons!

There are three parts to the political cycle: the registration stage, the voting stage, and the reign stage. The registration and voting stage last one week each, while the reign stage lasts for three weeks and overlaps the next occurring registration and voting stage.
