Fishing Skill up guide?

Is there one around here somewhere? Also, is it easier or harder to skill up fishing since the update? I got mine to 50, but then I quit after rusty caps got nerfed. I'm now interested in fishing for black sole, but not if it is gonna take me 6 months to get to the required level to catch them.
