Ever since I installed Aht Urghan whenever I try to start FFXI either with Xunleased or just normal style it gives me this error
Terminated as an error occured in Final Fantasy XI. Failed to initialize Direct 3D. Please check that this computer has the required specifications to run Final Fantasy XI(-1)
I have the latest version of Directx, Windows XP... this computer definately has the specs for FFxi... and I played a bunch B4 Aht Urghan

The strange part is that I can still log on using Windower 3.24 but I want to use some other scripts possibly this error just worries me

P.S. I never tried running FFXI without Xunleashed untill after I had already done so and so I don't know specifically when the problem started

I think there may be an old thread about this. Regardless, try emailing SE about it, perhaps they have some useful advice to offer.

The clue here is Aht Uggum! It uses a whole new display mode and messes up royally! I ended up buying a new graphics card to get around the problem - certain NVidia models just don't work with it. Don't get me wrong, the cards work great, but SE's code doesn't play nicely with them!

SE will simply tell you to turn down your resolution and revert to supported drivers - it doesn't work! My NVidia GE Force FX5200 with 128mb ram can't handle it! My new card is way overboard, but it runs Aht Uggum fine - Ati Radeon X1300 with 512mb ram ... lets see how long it takes for SE to overload that one!!! Oops, new expansion pack coming! (looks around for a 2gig card!!!)

I know the solution, that's pretty much guaranteed to work...

Download a Software emulator from the internet (Find one by searching for one on google or something).

Then just follow the steps, and check the box for "Emulate: Direct 3D."

Note: It might also be labeled Direct X or something associated with it. I had to do this on my old laptop for the Hardware TnL error, works like a charm :)

thanks, I finally figured it out... I had bump mapping enabled and for some reason that was screwing up but I actually found it out by ignoring FFXI support (I did send an email but they never responded) but I found it through wikipedia in the oddest way, but yeah go to ffxi config and try to disable/enable bump mapping..... btw if I didn't mention before I have a Nvidia 7900 512 mb, so this was incredibly confusing
