Okay, before i explain my situation, i have tried everywhere else :( no luck.

I just recently bought a new motherboard (4core dual-vsta) and a new processor 1.8 core 2 duo allendale. I reformatted my computer and reinstalled ffxi. Whenever i log on there's this strange drop in fps whenever i git near anything that's not me (even my moogle drops fps). It's to the point where ive quit playing because of the ridiculous lag. I used to have a !@#$%^* 2001 computer from HP that didn't have this problem. the motherboard was crap and outdated and the processor was a pentium 4 1.8ghz. I'm using the same ram and vid card as i was then but i have that annoying fps drop issue i never had before :( someone throw me some advice please.

What graphics card is it? Are there any other applications that slow down when you run them, or is it just FFXI? When does the actual drop in FPS happen, when POL closes and FFXI opens, or when you actually log in with your character and all the models are loaded and displayed? I'm guessing its a hardware problem here, but if the same video card works on the other pc, then its hard to say whats causing the problem. Also, Are you sure all the hardware is compatible? Sometimes old components do not play nice with newer ones.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but if I recall correctly once you update to the latest (vista) version, all those issues are resolved. I do agree that vista was released too early, but I think Microsoft wanted to get it out because it had already been delayed something like 3 or 4 years.
