As you know official FFXI can't be played unless you have playonline so what i'm wondering is how are you playing if your not using playonline

Erm, you're not. Afaik there is no private server currently that is anywhere near properly playable, so basically it's playonline.

Maybe someone could make a program that does the exact same thing, but tbh there'd be no point.

What are you talking about? How can you play FFXI without POL?

POL is the only program that can access and start FFXI.
