I want to return to FFXI and still have all my discs. Can someone give me a buddy pass number? I'll greatly appreciate it. Just send me an e-mail here if you can.

You don't need one anymore. You can choose whichever server you want.

I didnt mean a world pass. I meant a buddy pass. You know. One of those little cards that come with the game that have an extra FFXI registration code for a friend to try the game free for a certain period of time.

Nope. Although merits can be argued as kind of counting (they make you go back and get a shitload more exp anyway).

In my opinion, merits don't really do much. If you suck at your job before you get let's say 50 merits, you're still probably going to suck no matter what you put those points into; you'll just have better stats and that's all.
Now let's say you're pretty decent. Merits would help make you better; possibly.
But then again, the time you waste getting merit points might actually make you a better player in itself, so the total outcome of your skill would definitely vary on how much you put into obtaining merit points.

No question that merits on a skilled player will make a world of difference.
Great gear and uber merits on a !@#$%^* player still = a !@#$%^* player.

Yeah, but the same applies to extra levels.

Yes it does. But the idea behind extra merits/levels to me seems that SE doesn't intend on the stats helping you, but instead the effort you put into obtaining it. I think they feel that by "training" to get to that level will make you a better player, and not just the new stats.
Sorry if that sounded weird...

Well seeing as I have about 10 more acc/atk than another un-merited player, 5 more str and 4% more critical hit rate.... 5% more tripple attacks/kicks/counters.. a move that guarantees TA on a ws...
All this = you do more dmg and parse higher.. if you know how to use it.
And lol @ merits being training... it's an /autoattack+ctr1 spam (ws).. maybe toss some utsusemi in there... go go melee endgame lol.

Lol yeah... Unfortunately... IT's too damn repetitious and whenever you try and go someone exciting everyone cries about it and leaves the party... Stupid JP jerks...

isn't soloing pretty much impossible in ffxi? or have things changed since I quit?

Depends on your job. I know that speaking as a BLM, it's possible to solo 1-75, although it can be (very) slow in places.
