OK, this is not the only way to get onto the Atomos server, but it does work. Some people on the Order of the Blue Gartr forums say that this method is "retarded," but hey, if it works it works. Right?

So anyway, first off, we're going to be doing some memory editing, and you need to be running the game in a window to use a memory editing program while playing FFXI (duh). So download windower. You'll also need the name changer plugin, so download that too, and set it to auto-load on startup in your init.txt file. Next, you'll need this nifty little program called Cheat Engine, which allows you to view and edit a program's memory.

So, to recap, the three things you need to download are:
windower- http://www.windower.net/

name changer plugin - http://www.windower.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2029

Cheat Engine - http://cheatengine.org/download.php

Once you've downloaded all three of those, start up FFXI using windower (make sure the name changer plugin is enabled). Once you are on FFXI's main menu, double click on the icon for Cheat Engine to start the program. In the upper-left corner of the program, there is an icon that looks like a computer with a magnifing glass over it.

Click on this icon, and a list of programs currently running on your computer should pop up. Scroll through the list until you find pol.exe, and select that.

Once you've done all that, click back into FFXI and go through the process of creating a new character up until the server select menu. On the server select menu, choose Fenrir. Once you do that, the little box for entering a Gold World Pass should pop up. DO NOT PROCEED ANY FURTHER! Do not enter a Gold World Pass, do not press enter, do not do anything. At this point, click back onto the Cheat Engine program, and click on the Memory view button, which is located on the left side, near the middle of the application.

In the bottom half of the Memory Viewer, press Ctrl+F to preform a search, and search for the word Fenrir (yes, capitalization DOES matter). You may have to search a few times before it finds the server name instead of the summon or something else. You'll know when the one you've found is the server because the names of all the other servers will be right there beside it.

What you need to do is edit the hex values for Fenrir and change them to say Atomos (it has already been changed in the above picture). The hex values you'll need to enter are as follows:

A = 41
t = 74
o = 6F
m = 6D
o = 6F
s = 73

Once you've changed all six hex values, right click on each one of them and select Add this address to the list (you must add each of the six values individually).

Now close the Memory Viewer and go back to the main Cheat Engine window. The six hex values should now all be in a list on the bottom half of the window. Freeze all of them by clicking their checkboxes.

Once you've done all that, click back over into FFXI and get out of the character creation process and go back to FFXI's main menu. Once there, go back into the character creation process again and make a new character up to the point of the server selection menu. If you scroll through the server list, you'll notice that Fenrir is nowhere to be found. It has been replaced by Atomos.

Select Atomos as your server and log in!

enjoy :)

credit goes to whoever found out how to do it.

edit: well you would go for well..fun. unclaimed NMS, free zones, unclaimed HNMs basically just you.. and if you have a friend do it, you both can go in and have fun. :D. you can also try out hacks and bots to see if they work. also supposedly the test server has no GMs to watch over it, its a desolate place with just you soo test out bots and whatnot. everything will get you banned.. i personally went in 2months ago and i havent got banned yet...its not a instaban like y'all say. the bots y'all use can get you banned...basically ANY thirdparty software can get you banned. I mainly posted this because i found it interesting, if you all dont enjoy it, its cool ^^

this is cool, but it has no practical uses. You can't bring things in or take them out of atomos, so why go?

It is kinda fun I guess if you wanted to solo something, but you have to remember that FFXI is an EXTREMELY party DEPENDANT game. Meaning you can't solo anything worth a damn of EXP unless you're a BST, and soloing to that would be hard as hell anyway. Also, FFXI is an MMORPG, so if you want to play by yourself, get a regular RPG and go sit alone in your basement... Its also a test server, which means GM's, Admins, and anyone important in FFXI's creation is going to use it for game-testing. And Test Servers usually get restarted and wiped every so often... So all your hard work goes buh-bye in a few seconds... I highly recommend you don't waste time doing this, but if you want to, go ahead... No on is stopping you... And if they do catch you, your account will most likely be banned for hacking, and yes, they most likely have logs of users going in and out, so it won't take long...

#1. You get banned for going to Atomos now

#2. Im pretty sure I saw that exact post on KI, I remember reading

"Some people on the Order of the Blue Gartr forums say that this method is "retarded," but hey, if it works it works. Right? "

but hey I could be wrong. But either way nay cause it will get you banned as soon after you enter Atomos Server.

If this is posted in other places as well then it's worth nothing. Especially if it's on free sights.

And nay because of the whole instaban thing.
