Here she is in all of her glory *cough*
Few things to notice:
Still the same old Windows 3.0 games, no change
IE7 supports tabs and RSS
Transparency = pretty
Virtual folders
Lets hope the next beta won't be such a beast (500 MB of RAM used idle on desktop)

Hows it run?

It runs decent at best, 500mb of RAM used idle on desktop, along with 7% of my 1.9GHz P4. There is still a lot of optimizing to be done hopefully, but it runs great on any 64bit PC (or one that is above 2.8GHz) 1GB of RAM is the bare minimum I would suggest now.

The only big change right now seems to be the visual effects (avalon). More and more of the features I was really looking forward to have been cut, from winFS, MONAD (command replacement), to tons of other small things. Visually, it is a HUGE upgrade from XP I feel. Your system could handle it, but they're supposed to have alot more features in Beta 2 when it comes out. So I personally think it might be worth it to wait for that.

Freakin microsoft idiots. They implemented OpenGL through Directx. That means that ANY and ALL OpenGL games are going to run slower on OpenGL than Directx. They route all OpenGL commands through the Direct3d interface. Another Monopolistic move by Microsoft. Oh well. The graphics do look prettier. I'm just no learning OpenGL and because of them it will be less useful...drat!!

Eh... That's hardly what windows vista is.. It's downright ignorant to begin saying that at this point. It's not even based off windows XP, but windows 2003 (the server version of windows, which is still based off xp).
"Eye Candy" wise is a thing in itself.. The interface can be worked with in conjunction with your video card to bring some pretty impressive visualizations.
On top of that, this is all Beta 1 -- If I shown you windows whistler (XP) when it was in beta 1, you'de probably of said the same thing.
Sometime in december we will be able to post a few screenshots of beta 2 -- which is going to be *alot* further along.
