That's really bizaare that an actual developer of SoE has to go to an outside website to display these..Is the station website that bad?

Mate i don't think it has anything to do with the Station Website. The EQ2players.com site is quite simply the best official MMORPG board there is.
I'd say Owlchick just put them up there because they arn't 'official'. Official ones are usually picture perfect.
