First, if you've already done the newbie quests on the north side of Greater Faydark, you can't do this. Otherwise...

The 3rd or 4th newbie quest from the Matron of the Nursery at the Fae starting point is called Herbs of Healing and Growth. She sends you to harvest 5 faeicia plants, which are a stone's throw away to the west. Each harvest will improve your gathering skill by 1 regardless of your current skill level, all the way up to maximum. Harvest 4, delete and get quest again, repeat.
