To save yourself a few seconds while trying to get a Morale boost, you can kill the mesmer without starting the clock. All you need to do is get a ranger with a long bow, stand in the middle of the ramp, but make sure not to start the time. When you get in that little cirlce you can target the mesmer and start firing at him, since you didn't cross the plane the monks don't know to start healing, so they don't heal him, and you can easily take him down in about 10 seconds.
