My Semi-Brief LOTRO Review from Beta

Now because I was playing the beta I won't bias any views on bugs I found but more on overall gameplay.

At first I was impressed with the graphics in LOTRO. I setup the client to run at MAX graphics settings, full anti alias. It looked pretty good. I was impressed with the rather immersive Lord of the Rings backed environment they created. Graphics were quite impressive.

Now for the sad part, the gameplay. The gameplay was less than I had hoped for out of such a well developed game. Nothing new was done. Nothing outside of the box was even considdered. You know what the gameplay feels like? WoW. The combat is the same turn based less than real looking combat we as MMORPG players have come to expect. Some of the skills look cool. In the end I still felt like I was playing a 2nd generation MMORPG.

My Likes : Graphics and Scenery
My Dislikes: Gameplay was nothing new.

My final words: Play this game if WoW has bored you to death and you are a LOTR fan. LOTR fans can atleast have a WoW based in a world they read about with nice graphics.

If this goes up for submission for the contest then I will still keep the lifetime account upon winning :D

My sentiments exactly...

The graphics I feel are more pleasing than WoW,
but gameplay is much the same, and I hoped for something extra.

Worth playing but not sure it's worth twice the monthly WoW charge.

That's a little depressing. As much as people knock SWG...at least give them some credit for trying to be a little different than WoW. Even if the result is still sloppy.

At least LOTR has the lifetime membership thing...that's pretty tempting.

It's only 10$ a month preorder. 15$ if you don't...which is the same as wow... Not sure where your getting double from.

Yeah tcmaint, your prices are a little off.

Anyway, I love the gameplay, it interests me more than WoW's for some reason. Don't give up faith in the game, just keep in mind it's just now in open beta and it still has a lot of time to improve and change. :)
