Last night I was playing my level 90 trader and my 49 jedi same time, same account.
Here how I done that: I log on to my trader inside the Kkorust forest in Kasshyyk and then I log off quick and DOUBLE CLICK my jedi and log on.
If you do that fast (Without clicking "LOGIN") but instead double click the name of your toon..and I found my trader stay there too in the same spot.
(I have manualy bring both toons in the instance in the same spot).
And ...so i found my trader still there and I invite him and log off and DOUBLE CLICK my jedi 's name and log on and accept the invitation...
Then I move him close to the blackscale camp and log off and "DOUBLE CLICK" I log on my 90 trader.
I keep going back and forth and looting all the stuff with my jedi(Cause I made him Master looter).
I was doing this all last night...lol..I am loaded with acolute robes and weapon bufs..lol.
Trader was killing and jedi was looting...woot!!

REMEMBER NOT TO CLICK LOGIN--->>>Instead "DOUBLE CLICK " YOUR TOONS NAME

This working outside of the instances too.Just Tried with my entertainer and my jedi in Tattoine a 2 min ago

I know..but he doesn't...I play all nite with both toons.
You have the lower toon in a instance to loot high grade stuff and money or equipment.
And because the Acolyte robes are BoP that's why you want the alt to be there so he can loot those BoP's

This is working as intended:
Logout a toon outside a building and he'll stay in the world for 5minutes or so with (LD) tag over his head.
Logout a toon inside a building and he'll disappear right away. Nothing to do with dbl clicking toon or clicking login button.

Um the robes are no use as you can't sell them so its a mute point....
