Once you get to stormreach port, talk to the tavern keeper, and do his first mission you can talk to the cleric.

The cleric's mission is to go down into the cellar, kill 10 creatures and find two items. Along the way, there's a mushroom, which you can gather once per mission. If you abandon the mission after you grab the mushroom, you can reenter and grab another. You can sell these mushrooms to the mushroom collector.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

I'm not far enough into the game to judge how valuable this is, but it'll add up for some starting gold.

this works on any quest as long as you do it right before you do the last task... you lose the xp for getting it done but keep all the gold/items..

I tried it and this is very effective. I personally enjoy doing the kobold bros quest, since they both have chests in their locations
