10 Minute Rule

Caydien of Blizzard Finally explains the 10 minute rule

I will endeavor to clear up the controversy and confusion surrounding the "ten-minute rule."

The idea that players would have to remain in battlegrounds for ten minutes before they'd receive a Mark of Honor for losing was one the developers were seriously considering as an effort to reduce the incentive players had to lose a battle quickly. The concept was simple: it would give players incentive to try and stay in, rather than giving up and allowing a quick loss without any effort expended. However, during further discussions, it was decided that adding a mild punishment to those who /afk out of battlegrounds, in the form of a requeue timer (Deserter debuff), would be preferable to the old "ten-minute rule" idea. In addition, since the problem was primarily found in Arathi Basin matches held during the Arathi Basin "holiday," the developers chose to improve the way in which bonus honor was awarded during Arathi Basin holidays rather than institute the ten-minute rule.

it probably will do the trick and get people to stay longer, but maybe they should slightly raise the faction or exp bonus as well?

it sucks, because before when we were facing a group of 6 pallies and 4 priests, we could just go ahead and let them stomp us and get the rep at the end, but now we have to try to hold them off for a good 10 min, blizzard strikes again

If there is a deserter just kick them out and join in battle as group. It's no a big problem. Although I really have people to chicken out and leave the bg when they think they gonna lose. Sometime they are afk and they got kick out so I don't blame them for that.

Lol... why does this topic keep getting revived? Blizzard isn't gonna change the deserter. Although it's good in ways, it's bad for those that have something come up that requires them to leave, and also bad for those that get disconnected and cannot connect again before being booted.

Might this topic get locked? Or is it gonna keep coming back like my sweaty boot rash?
