I've been considering WoW, but every roleplayer I've spoken to says it's rubbish. I realise powergamers love it to death, but I've never been a powergamer. So can anyone tell me what WoW has to offer a player like me who is into roleplaying more than fighting?

Roleplaying Servers =)

Im sure you can find a good RP server with a good RP guild and have a good time. I myself am not into RP but it does seem like Blizzard is trying to make it RP friendly even tho players tend to ignore the RP rules from what i hear

yes RP servers are very strict on rules, so you will have a good time on those servers.

Fixed, Blizzard are not as strict on RPing as people would like to believe. When the Blackrock server is down, everyone migrates to Argeant Dawn and spams/creates commotion. Argeant dawn is RP, Blackrock is not. I find this hilarious. (Sorry RPers of Tault!)

World of Warcraft only sucks for roleplayers when people get on the Role Playing servers and harass them. Generally though RP servers are pretty much the same as any other server, just a little more strict.

What is roleplayer and roleplayer server?

Roleplaying is when you actually act the class you have. So for example here is a differnce

Normal Server : Hey whats up

Role play server : Hello good knight may i assist you in your quests.

Or something along those lines. You keep reality out of the server and just play as if you are actually that character.

You would be surprised how annoying this can get!

If your definition of RPing is like:

"omgz want to have secks with me in teh goldshire inn?"

Then you'll be right at home... I swear, I logged on to an RP server for like 5 minutes and never logged on one again because I was scared.

This was a while ago, so they might have changed a bit, or some server might be better than others.

THere arent many RP servers to choose from, so they are probably all like that

RP/PVP servers seem cool.

Yeah, seem cool, but i still say PVP>RPPVP as really, all you are doing is taking longer to type stuff which coudl otherwise be done faster, and not optimising your time on wow.... well unless you REALLY like RPing, but surely sometimes you will log on and not feel like it.

PvPRP servers are good. One with a lot of RP is Maelstrom, though you need to know where to look.

Roleplaying servers

You act like the character. While your job should has something to do with the way you act that is not the only thing to follow.

Roleplaying you set a line. Between yourself and the character. In a roleplaying server you do not act like you do in real. You can still talk like you normaly do but you are the character.

Example let's say you make a character named Tidus and he looks like the one in FFX.

You can act like him and make a story or a trail on how you eneded up in WoW. The job he picks would have to be a Melee class though because everyone knows Tidus is not a Mage

Another example and most important would be a female character. In a roleplaying game if you pick a female. You better be able to act like a female.

Things you dont do in Role servers. Start talking about the basket ball game or Idol or songs. You talk about the game and game related things.
