dont know if its actually a guide and more of common knowledge but here it goes anyway i always died of the summon before but found a trick

Fly to cosmowrench and make your spellcloth at the flightmaster the guards there will put a net on the summon so it cant move you can now freely move out of range

i usually just go to area 52 and make the cloth inside the inn. when the elemental is summoned they are quickly attacked by all the NPCs while i spam arcane explosion. Using this tactic i was able to complete my spellfire cloth quest solo at lvl 65 and still loot my motes when the elemental dies.
