How to block your competition on the market : Age of Conan Discussions

Currently there is a limitation to the amount of items that show up on the trader when doing a search. I'm not sure what the max is, but let's say it's 50.
So you search for "Cotton" and you get 50 items. Most of those items will be in a quantity of 1. You may get a few results that are stacked.
The fix for that is to search with a higher price.
So you search for everything that costs 2 silver or more. Now you got rid of all the single items and can see more stacks. Even that trick a lot of people don't know about... but those that do benefit by seeing the stacks of items which are usually sold at cheaper prices.
Now for the trick. This is based on theory, should probably be done with an alt, and is low handed.

The trick to beating out your competitor is to flood out their product with single items.
So lets say he's selling 4 or 5 stacks of Ash at... 50s? each. (I'm not in game, i have no idea what the price is).

In order to make it so people don't see his items just sell a bunch of single ash at 50s each. People will adjust their search to get around it but will never see his items. You could sell yours for more at that point (maybe 60s ea) and people doing searches to get around that flood of single items would find yours, but not his.

If you did this incrementally like selling 50 single ash at 10 silver each, 50 single ash at 20 silver, 50 ash at 30 silver, etc. you'd flood the search results making it virtually impossible for anyone to find stacks of the same item at a reasonable price.

Since this basically eats up most of your bank space for one search result, I don't see many people doing this. You would have to devote one character per item per price point in order to make it work. And when the market changes slightly you'd have to login all your characters and modify each of the 50+ item prices. Too much work.

Nay, as ulorid has noted this is a pretty useless and time consuming thing to do.

Yay, however only for a small amount. But I will give the reason why I say Yay instead of Nay.

There was a way to do this back in the beginning of SWG when it first launched and I was one of the people who did it.

You can effectively control the market of that specific item for a brief period of time if you keep on it. Now is this the most effective way to make money? Eh not really but I did it anyway, by controlling the search results for that item (thus the market) prices change based on your changes or the ability you adapt to someone pulling off the samething.

Personally if I had the drive or need to make money this is likely the path I would go being the merchant type. But couldn't care about gold at the moment so meh.

no problem, there's a lot of other sites out there that respond better than this. I'll take my suggestions there in the future.

/nay, and those other sites aren't being honest; or do not know how to play the game. This post, while a contribute, is inefficient.

Basically what lethal said. What you proposed will work, but the reason most of us look here is to find easier ways of getting things done, making more cash, etc. What will happen when you try to control the market like this is to drop the prices. Now, if you want to try to drop the market value of items, sure, set yourself up like this so that people will try to find items at a lower price because yours will appear to be the normal price. In which case you need to be careful because someone with enough money can corner the market and then proceed to set the price higher. Or you can just whine some more because people didn't like your idea.

I don't mind the /nay's. I agree that some ideas are better than others.
I just think people should be careful how they criticize others that are "giving" information. Take it or leave it, I care not... but call posts that I make "stupid" and I take offense.

indeed i apologize, but i gave a whole message why this COULD not work, 'this is a stupid post imo' was the only thing u quoted, plz post the whole thing too.. i was just saying people LIKE ME, search the entire ah for the lowest price so i was saying this may not work

but then again .. im sry next time ill just give my opinion and not use any flaming, and indeed i'm gratefull for every little bit of info on this site :)

/nay same reason as lethal

/NAY - strongly - does not fit trader mechanics... I've seen MANY people selling 1 of an item instead of a stack at a heavily reduced price just to move said item... If you find a price point/item you like hit advanced and search for the person that sold the 1 stack cheaply, they might be selling multi-stacks cheaply as well.
