It's simple, first off you have to be around water. Attack the mob you want to kill and get him agroed to you[you not your pets]then make your pets attack him. Jump into water and it will remain agroed to you while your pets kill the mob untouched.

Yes you can kill a lot higher level mobs this way, and also if you climbing up on tent roofs, roofs, a bit up in a mountain every where that the mobs doesn't reach you.
