Am i the only one that can't get on? : FFXI General Discussions

This is pathetic. Are dos attacks so powerful and sneaky that someone can do it for this long and not get caught?

Read up on DDoS, essentially only way to get caught is to be super stupid and brag about what you're doing.

Anyway, my brother can't get on but I can. My server got about 1000 online instead of the usual 3500+. I'd guess you're not alone.

DDOS is difficult to prevent, but there are some really good technolgies to protect against them. The one I am most familiar with is from a company called Mazu Networks.

For something like 150K they could put in a high availability DDOS protection system that would most likely be able to handle their traffic load.

In some respects I wonder if SE didn't break their own systems based on the timing of this with the update... Its also somewhat lame of them to keep having this happen, and not credit back money to their subscribers accounts.

They need to do something...

If they can tell individual address that are sent why can't they well who it is when several are done at once? Security on the whole internet needs to be redefined so it's very hard to do things like this.

upon speeaking with one of PoL 's reps this morning i found out that you personally have to send in a email via the support section on their website saying that you would like your money back.
i have already done this because i still haven't gotten the update because i'm online in the mornings. and the server is always f****ed up in the morning and i can't log on.
i emailed PoL saying that i called the bank and put a stop payment on my FFxi account until i can log on and continue game play with out any interruptions.
i urge you to do the same. maybe if enough ppl quit paying their monthy fee they fix the problem instead instead of just brushing it off, and saying we'll fix it later..

you remember those 800+ accounts that got perma banned?
you remember when the attacks started and we had problems loggin on?

put 2 & 2 together

PoL took away someones income and it hit them hard how else to get back at PoL than to F*** up their server and piss off their "Customers"?

whatever the case DDoS attacks are childish and whoever is doing it in my opinion needs to F***ing grow up and get a real job...

Actually I was thinking this before they even admitted it was a ddos attack.

Agreed on your second point. I just wish it was easier to catch people committing these sort of attacks.
