Killing the AH : FFXI General Discussions

Maybe it's just on my server, but lately I have seen a lot of undercutting going on in the auctions house. I watched the sapara go from 2k to 900 in like 3 days. Saw a big drop in brnz hammers too. It's hard to make an AH living these days. Guess people don't like profit.

Well give it a month because all the ps2 versions are coming which means a whole new group of players will be in the game soon.

there is only ONE other thing you can do though. it is kinda tough and time consuming, but i DOES work, just takes time. If you have the money (RL) get a few extra chars, and keep selling items between them, ect. over and over, till the entier sales history is full of the price you want. it worked for me anyways. not always works, but alway worth a shot.

that thing where you sell items between 2 chars won't work because of the way that the prices at the ah work....the things that are priced less sell first for ex. if there are two stacks of silk thread at the ah #1 is set at 12k and #2 is set at 9.5 k...and a buyer comes along and bids the 12k...the stack that is set at 9.5k will get sold first...if u were planning on buying your own stack of silk for 12k then you just got shafted because you bought a stack of silk thread that normally sells for 9.5 k for the inflated price of 12k.....the only way that price setting would work is to get EVERYONE on the entire server to sell their products at a set price and good luck with that :?

you just sell it for a lot cheaper than anyone else would, whoever sells it for the lowest prices sells it first. so yea. just sell it for a price you know if less than anyone else

On the note of that one guy where you have multiple characters and buy/sell to one another, here is the real way to do it.

You only need your one character and a nice lump sum of money depending on what you are trying to fix in the AH. Though you only need 1 character to do this.

1st: Buy ALL of the item you are wanting to fix.
2nd: Put 7 back into the AH at the price YOU want it at.
3rd: Bid WITH THE SAME CHARACTER on that item at that price.
4th:Rinse Repeat

After 2 times you'll have reset the price. I know with the multiple character's it seems less obvious. So if you want to make it less obvious get a TRUSTED friend and have this as step 3.

Optional 3rd:Have friend buy all of THAT ITEM for what you set it at.
4th: Get your items back and return friends Gil.
5th: Rinse Repeat

... the prices will go back to what it is normally at the end.. this will not last long, so try not to adjust the prices..

you could also lower prices by doing that same strategy

Think I'm missing something here. You still need to buy all of an item. Then (I assume) you're selling the same item at a lower price. Which seems to mean that you're taking a loss on each and every one you bought.

Now I can see how it can work out if you have a huge stockpile of the item that you synthed yourself, but if that's the case why not just sell it for cheaper (say 100g less) than the going price and make, more or less, the going price? (I guess if you're sympathetic to newbies you can make things easier for them, but that'd just be plain weird. ;) )
