since when are the pol servers so succeptible to DoS attacks?? I always thought that DoS attacks were easy to trace, well, at least for analysts with the correct knowledge. I dont know, im getting an error in the following pic im uploading, maybe its not dos, but its definately something.

EDIT:

NVM, me and my conspiracy theories......its fixed now.

If you spend some more time on reading up on DDoS attacks you'll see the limits to how well you can protect yourself.

How come Ff11 is the only MMORPG getting hit. The others are not having the same kind of problems.

Well see they are incredibly easy to trace if there comeing from one Ip or a list of Ip's coming from a aera thats Close like Within a State or Even a Country. But when you got Ip's frequently changeing to random locations around the world its alot harder to Pin Point.

A DoS attack can be perpetrated in a number of ways. There are three basic types of attack:
1. consumption of computational resources, such as bandwidth, disk space, or CPU time
2. disruption of configuration information, such as routing information
3. disruption of physical network components

Also I have been lead to believe from Statements given from POL and SE that these Attacks have been Masked VERY well. TO show that its regular information coming into the server as Packets that are used regularly.
But they arent, and then they effect Log On Procedures, Search Procedures. And since FFXI is designed to run Server Side Your pretty much Screwed!
A DDos is whats Happeneing TO The Servers.

Distributed denial-of-service attacks

In a distributed attack, the attacking computer hosts are often personal computers with broadband connections to the Internet that have been compromised by viruses or Trojan horse programs that allow the perpetrator to remotely control the machine and direct the attack, often through a botnet. With enough such slave hosts, the services of even the largest and most well-connected websites can be denied.

So hope that further enlightened you.

You could make the attack seem like it was coming from Blizzard Entertainment if you wanted to. ;)

Ok, you can't change the source IP on Win9x but you can on Win2k/XP... and there's a crapload of zombies out there running 2k/xp.

Reason for it not hitting other vendors is probably that either:
a) They never had enough problems with it to go public.
b) No pimple faced snot has yet to DDoS them.

There have been plenty of other MMO's with DOS problems in the past.

I have a friend the plays EQ2 and WOW. He said that didnt happen in those games.

He is one of those fanatics that wont play FF11 because it says Final Fantasy.
