Aight, if you are a lazy bastard (like me) and dont feel like buyin several differnet types of bait, crafting bait, changing location then you should read this.
Now, I'm gonna explain my insanely simple guide to lvl fishing from lvl 0-96....
[edit] Oh yeah, I forgot to say, this route is 100% safe since your in town the whole time.
i've seen a lot of guides say that you cant gain skill ups on fish that are way above your level... LIE. you do gain skill ups, just very slowly... that is why this guide is the simple way but its also a very long road...

LVL 0-56
rod: composite/lu shang's
bait: shrimp lure
location: bastok markets
Fish: Tricolored Carp weight: 620
Gold Carp weight: 920

you will catch tri colored carp and gold carp.... Tricolored carp cap at lvl 27, and gold carp cap at lvl 56, you wont make a whole lot of money during this stage...

LVL 56-96
rod: composite/lu shang's
bait: sinking minnow
location: Port Jeuno
Fish: Black Soles weight: 1320

You should only catch black soles (if you configure your bot right), you will gain skill ups very slow but it will take you all the way to lvl 96, Black Soles go for 30k/stack on the Midgardsormr server. this is where you will see your money.

This is a very simple guide, but again, its a very very long road fishing for fish that are way above yoru skill.

Good post. While someone would have to be really lazy to go from 1-56 like this it certainly can be done. Infact I did a similar idea in Rabao while fishing moats. I got enough sandfish to get my skill from 20-35.That was when I botted 24/7 though, not something that I would do again, I can't believe I didn't get caught then.

Now that I've made it past 56 skill I've found that black sole idea to be really good. The things I should be catching at my current skill (64) don't catch the hook often enough to skill up because there are other fish I catch up instead. So what I've been doing is riding the Jeuno-Windy airship back and forth every 2 hours so I can zone. So basically I spend 2 hours in Jeuno on black sole and then 2 hours in windy on bastore bream. Though at this point I find the bream to be much better skillups so I focus my efforts there.

would be boring to stay at bastok markets until lvl 56 fishing, but hey if it works, then its useful to others

I would VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY strongly advise against this path under the new fishing system. You should only fish stuff that's within 15 skill points of your current skill.
For example, fishing those black sole you'll be lucky to get a single skillup in a week at 56 skill!

I've noticed.. I tried for a full day and only got to lvl 4. I tried swapping around to carp etc sure I made some ok money off them but not really good gains.

wow and I thought my way was really lazy and slow gaining. Anyhow, fishing the carp will work because each lvl of carp carries close enough to the next to gain somewhat decently. The black sole are hard to even hook when your at 56, much less reel in.
