Which race for DRK??? : FFXI General Discussions

OK this is a very opinional issue some say Elvaan some say Galka and some just go with something else so heres the poll to say what the people are looking for in parties!

NOTE: Zied (or something like that) is the best DRK and hes a Galka!

A. Want to anoy me
B. Don't Know much about DRK's
C. Prefer the "handicapped" Races
D. Have a very weird playing style
E. Specialize in different races (most likely)
F. Just like the races appearance

I picked Elvaan

Drk are DD elfs have the best Strenthg. Also they can use Magic better than Mithra and Galkans. I would also go with Humes since this job would benefit from being all around.

id say tarutaru. some taru on my server outdamaged every other drk out there

I choose mithra to make up for Drk's poor accuracy.

There is no "best" race for -any- job. Period.

There are no jobs/race combinations' weaknesses that cannot be made up for by good gear/skill.

Here is a question how do you know Zeid is the best Dark Knight ever.

Last time I checked you cannot fight between servers. I know many people in my server that are very good. Dont make them the Best out of all.

I have seen people solo Avaatars. Can this Dark Knight do that. Kill nm that normally takes a whole lvl 60 - 65 pty. How many people has he Pvped can he Pvp. Can he kill a Lvl 75 Red Mage. If any of these questions is a No guess what . That means he is not the best. Can he solo nm 75 because Some Reds in my server can. Ohh but they got sleep and blah blah. You are the one that said he is the Best. To be the Best you most excell in all areas. How is he the Best.

Did your server Have a tournament with all the Dark Knights to see who was the Best. Remeber one thing their is always always someone better than another.

To say that He is the Best without Proving it or giving examples is kind of DUUUUhhhh HAAA.

OK,OK, im sorry for being rude but I got the DRK info off a guy and he said BEST DRK not overall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just really annoyed that GALKA came in last (tying with MITHRA) and because I specialize in them but u didnt have to be so harsh

DRK is an interesting job.
There is a right answer to this question... its whatever race you chose to play on FFXI. However with that said lets look closer at the desputed races (mainly Taru, Galka, and elveen)
Taru as a DRK
-> has higher INT, for anybody who has partied up with a Taru BLM you'll typically see higher DMG output from there spell casting. Higher INT also increases the "accuracy" of the spell.
-> has more MP, this translates into one of two things. One: more spells per round of combat = more DOT. Two: Investing in better attribute gear rather than MP gear = better stats
-> has natural evasion, not to nerd it up but the basis in any RPG from FFXI to D&D states that smaller targets are harder to hit.
-> has higher Darkness relationship = this equates to harder hitting Absorbs, which sadly enough not to many ppl on my server take advantage of. Using absorbs helps out greatly during a fight. Ex : Absorbing MND from a creature during a fight lowers its magic defense and since its an absorb, it'll increase yours slightly.

Galka as a DKN
-> more HP, this is great for DKN do to the fact that there higher level gears lower Vit and other Physical Dmg ability scores, another benifit of higher hp is a longer Soul Eater wich is one of the highest melee dmg sources in the game.
-> They have natural defense
-> high STR scores is more melee DMG per given round

Elveen as a DKN (i don't like elveen personally, but most ppl do...)
-> High STR = high melee DMG output
-> MP is higher than Galkas
-> high MND = Survivability vs spellcasters

etc... personally i'd choose this in order of my personal preferance of races for drk values (Taru, Hume, Galka, Mithra, Elveen). hey its just my opinion after all

isn't Zeid the Galka you get the drk job quest through in Bastok? I think why they said Zeid was the best drk ever is because that's what the NPC characters in the game say when you are getting the drk quest



I agree with non specific job being the best for any race as well. I'm a taru; awesome evasion and AGI as well as lots of MP for mages. But to get "one shotted" for ~1100 damage by a VT as a 75PLD sucks >.< Evasion is nice to have but low max hp suck so you have to make up for that by getting better gear. Any taru PLD knows without the best gear you will fail. Galka PLD's, without a thf lack the ability to hold hate usually because after a couple cure's they are out of mp.

taru NIN on the other hand can handle those strong one shotters ... but against something that has fast attacks (like a mnk 2hr) the nin's shadows would be torn right through and you have to hope your evasion holds out long enough to get them back up.

... you see what I'm getting at While taru may have enormous max mp; it sucks having 800hp max for a whm75 Then again ... a galka probably complains about having no mp. I know I'm going to get a comment about "whm's don't need high hp because they shouldn't be getting hit". Correct ... but are you saying you have never seen a whm get hit that is doing its job correctly? Keeping a tank alive is usually a whm's #1 priority. If the tank is getting hit to hard and you have to spam cure's to keep it alive, eventually you will pull hate. Sometimes if the tank is getting beat up and the whm starts pulling hate ... it usually means the rest of the pt isn't doing their job Would be nice to have a little extra HP as a taru whm for situations like this. Being the unlucky recipient of a Tripple Attack from a great bird sucks ...

Don't take this as an attack on one race or another. Every race has its good areas and bad areas. Hume would put you in the middle of it all but also, as a hume you will never be the best in one area.

Up to you how you choose to play

I guess he is the best the game itself says so.

I say Taru because they are cute to look at.

Remember, you going to play this game for awhile and you have to look at your character model everything. Get something really cute like a F Tarutaru.

So a galka blm +gear food would be as good as a Taru blm, unless the taru is using the same food and gear.

im a Elvan dark knight, at times i wish i was a mithra for the extra Dex, the drop in mp wont hurt to bad all i ever use are my absorb spells
