Play the variant with a skull, get a plasma pistol

Have one held while you are near the skull.

Hold RT to charge the plasma pistol then you move up to the skull slowly.

Hold X and move to it then back up immediately after you pick it up.

You should drop both weapons leaving you with nothing.

Your HUD will show nothing.

If someone else looks at you, they will see your fists up like your about to fight him.
