Currency Exchange Opinions... : General Discussion

sinema
I'm just stating opinions etc since this is an "Open Forum" for discussion on the topic you posted.

Eh sinema please read how the system works. Ill put it in ffxi gil terms.
Much Appreciated
~~~~
1) Player 1 sells us gil for 10 dollars.
2) Player 2 who is commiting times to us picks up that gil.
3) Player 2 then finds players 3 who wants to buy gil.
4) Player 2 then gives the gil to player 3 after he pays for it.
5) player 2 gets 10% commision on the sale in the form of in game currency.
This is basically what most sites do
Example: IGE etc.. however the people who go online to transfer gil are employees or sub contractors.
Also, if player 2 is soliciting people to buy gil to get commission this turns into a Tier System which is actually a Federal offense in the US. If it's over seas etc.. it turns into a big FBI thing .. fun excitement are within that nice group of people. They actually have an office in a town where my College is specificly designed for governing the internet. I'm suprised they would devote so much time into such things but I guess internet is bigger then what most people could comprehend.
In within most laws that govern the Internet are US laws so you'll have to be careful about that. If you get one really angry consumer they can just report whomever to the BBB and that turns into a big mess. Since there are tax laws etc that people have to abide by. ( a lot of Countries have weird tax laws that make you report taxes on any type of income earned. )
Anyway, back on track, this is what most companies that sell gil do. except they usually don't give that much control to the "Player 2" .. it's usually under house rule.
All in all they wont be farming to get 10% for us. We dont ask anyone to do that. They get fully paid if they want to farm gil for us. Of course we know there will be people who try to scam us and we arent going to allow giant purchases for anyone to start.
This is something similar to what IGE ( and other gil sites ) ask their customers not to do. Full in knowledge that they are botting and farming and doing whatever it takes to earn currency to sell. This is one of those "Cover your butt" statements that sites use to blanket over to save them from getting flame from players of said games they represent. I don't blame any site for using a blanket statement.. I'd hate to get the flames as well.
~~~~~~
When someone tries to scam us we will of course ban thier account from our system.

We are working on ways to stop people from doing this. IE we send a letter confirming the purchase that can be tracked via fed ex. Also its an intangible item so alot of the time paypal will have our side. WE might only use credit cards to. We have a variety of decessions to make on that as we see how the system works.
This covers you getting the payment but does not cover the consumer getting their selected item(s).. I'll give you a sure fire way of securing your transaction in following statement ^.^
As for people saying they dont get payments ect ect. We have a system to stop that to. We will require whenever someone makes a payment to take a screen shot of the payment being done. If they dont or forget then its their fault for allowing that.
This is a good idea but it won't work... The Character Name would have to be the Credit Card Holders Name to prove validity... Even if you capture the server name.. the user name.. the user saying I'm so and So.. that all can be done with 'Smoke and Mirrors.'

Like I said above you will basically come across 90% good people and that 10% is a liability that can't be disputed. Because if they dispute their purchase with your site with their credit card company their funds are instantly returned to them. After that their Credit Card company will look into the sell and if you can't prove that John Doe ( Himself ) made this purchase and got the items he claimed he didn't then they will retract the funds from you. If you don't have the funds available they will follow w/ legal actions.

To make yourself 100% safe you could do either of the follow

Make the buying include their phone number and follow up with that person ( that way there is a paper trail )
or
Have that purchaser send a validation email from their computer stating that they got it ( this isn't 100% but a lot of people don't spoof their ip's anymore )

But this will make it rough on those who are doing exchanges because they have to await approval.

~~~~
Well, Not trying to tear down your idea but there are things you have to face when dealing with this garbage.. And as someone stated above.. if you get a couple of bad apples that steal your currency .. you'll end up getting a bad rep and reps travel fast in the gaming world.
WEll close simena you are wrong on a few aspects.
Biggest one is BBB they arent an legal entity. All they are is a private company that will allow you to pay them 150 dollars each year then they rate you and give your a sticker.
As for the tier scheme no one will be doing that. They dont know who is buying or selling. Its hidden from them so even if they recommended someone they couldnt atually know they would be doing that transfer.
No not really a blanket statement. People cant get money however they want. Not everyone will go and farm money ect ect. Just replying to your previous statement when you had it wrong implying we gave people 10% funds for donating 100% of thier funds to us. Which was wrong.
We have some other ways to stop people from trying to ruin things. Its something we can fix. And we wont let the bad apples ruin it. We will get them and give the person who got screwed over the benifit of the doubt.
Its what alot of companies do such as bestbuy they already plan ahead for people who are going to steal from the store and have extra cash set aside to make up for those errors. We have something like that already set up.
Im not going to go to much into detail of things but i can assure you this is a system that no other company has made yet we are original.
I would be interested in this for eq2 or swg. More for the donating side for premium membership. I want a premium but refuse to use paypal due to a bad experience in the past. Would maybe sink later on and use paypal if needed to buy some for that uber gear :P
Great idea, I would be willing to make transactions for 10%.
I could handle World of Warcraft, and possibly Everquest Live if i ever decide to renew that game. (Not EQII)
This would help a lot of the newer people to the game too.
I would be happy to volunteer for GW.
allowing volunteers could make things gown sour fast. Some people can't keep their mouths shut and may get GMs involved if they say too much... Id love to help, but I can see how it could be a bad idea letting too many people get involved....
