Here's a video I made explaining :-)

Obviously you can go with any multiple of 4 dyes but I do 32 at a time.

I spent about 10g playing around with this and managed to break a little less than even, only because I was lucky enough to get an Abyss and White dye out of it. The other rare dyes, save Black, all sell for beans.

On my server, the cheapest rare dyes sell for around 7s and everything I purchased was at 7s or less. (including the broker fee)

I suppose some profit could be realized if rare dyes can be found for 4s or less on your server.

1g is only enough for 3 chances with odds being 4/90 for any given spin to give you one worth the cost of playing and 6/90 chance to multiply your bet...

It's not a cheat or anything to guarantee, but it isa decent way to simulate relatively good odds/reward gambling!

Yeah, this is no trick or exploit or cheat. That's why I put it under guides.

It definitely is *gambling*.

The odds and payout are pretty damn good compared to "casino" odds gambling though, so it can be worth playing around with if you wish to take a risk!

Let's say you get dyes at 8s each, it can be simplified to spending 32s for a chance to get one of the 10 (at the moment) dyes worth more than that.

There are 90 varieties of rare dye, so as it stands thats a 1/9 chance of at least getting your money back.

Within those 10 different dyes, 4 are more or less at a value where you break even for that attempt, but 6 have a chance to get many times the cost of entry.

Let's put it verrrrry roughly, being very harsh on the dye values when you sell, assume any "break even" dyes just equate to a free spin and any big win dyes get replaced out of your pocket:

Cost per spin : 32s

1/90: 4g = 1 on random number generator
1/90: 2g 50s = 2 on random number generator
1/90: 2g 20s = 3 on random number generator
1/90: 2g = 4 on random number generator
1/90: 1g 70s = 5 on random number generator
1/90: 1g 50s = 6 on random number generator
2/45: free spin = 7-10 on random number generator
8/9 : LOSE = 11-90 on random number generator

I'm going to run some simulations using this as a rough guide and post results, if anyone wants to point out why I'm wrong with this go ahead - I'm just a musician ;-P

edit:
first round of 100 spins, 125 total chances + free spin results = loss of 27g 30s

second: loss of 40s

third: gain of 7g 90

So yeah, it's risky but that's part of the point - it's nice that you can make your own gambling system if you want to gamble.

I think it was luck, I don't believe Abyss Dye is rarer than the others, just much more demanded because people think black is cool and so its price is higher.

I don't think magic find helps you get better magic items anyway, just that you'll get one at all.

It would be interesting to collect more data to find out if the mystic forge dye generation actually picks from less than all possible rare dyes maybe?

Does it matter which type of rare dye you use? or have to use on specific spectrum?
