Na its not a lifetime account, although it makes up for it by being on lotro's permanent beta list invites as well as they refuse to ever ban me for more then a couple weeks at a time, because i discovered half of the hacks that they have needed to fix, and they know that i have more that they havnt caught yet so they try to use me as a exploit fixer

lotro (in a VERY limited version) will be free in fall so with turbines timing maybe by Christmas...

plus there are three categories

free (NEVER played lotro before, or paid ANY thing to turbine)
premium (if you ever had an account and paid at least once to turbine)
vip (lifetime or currently still paying regularly to turbine)

so this account would be premium in ftp

to me the f2p ISN'T about new players as lotro has been HEAVILY advertised and they have had a much better free trial in place for over 3 years

the f2p (IMO) is to get money from the lifetime account people who if you figure @15 a month as the normal subscription rate their $199 lifetime "balance" 14 months after the game opened in april 2007

so now we are almost 40 months since the game opened and lotro hasn't received any $ from the lifetimers in 26 months except for expansions which are a "have to" pay

The items in the store (from what I've heard about) are a lot of things that a long time player with a lot of alts (lotro's only real end game is more alts, and crafting) could use to tweak that alt with way less time and just a little $

well anyway that's the way I see it the scary thing is since lotro HAS advertised so heavily if they were trying to get NEW people, those NEW people are the same ones that drove many lotro players TO lotro, as it is one of the more mature player bases (ie: the players are old, many call them selves aging hippies) in games....

Well i do think that yes they are going to make money off the lifetime players which might of been the plan all along. Who knows.

However i do think they will be getting a lot more players when it goes free to play. There are a lot of kids out there who have little to no money to spend on games. If it wasnt so successful then they wouldnt of done it to almost all turbine games.

(Still waiting for asherons call though).
