to me the f2p ISN'T about new players as lotro has been HEAVILY advertised and they have had a much better free trial in place for over 3 years
the f2p (IMO) is to get money from the lifetime account people who if you figure @15 a month as the normal subscription rate their $199 lifetime "balance" 14 months after the game opened in april 2007
so now we are almost 40 months since the game opened and lotro hasn't received any $ from the lifetimers in 26 months except for expansions which are a "have to" pay
The items in the store (from what I've heard about) are a lot of things that a long time player with a lot of alts (lotro's only real end game is more alts, and crafting) could use to tweak that alt with way less time and just a little $
well anyway that's the way I see it the scary thing is since lotro HAS advertised so heavily if they were trying to get NEW people, those NEW people are the same ones that drove many lotro players TO lotro, as it is one of the more mature player bases (ie: the players are old, many call them selves aging hippies) in games....
