mchInjDrv.sys being picked up as a virus : General & Trouble Shooting

Symantec is picking up mchInjDrv.sys as an infected file being downloaded by the X Unleashed lancher. Am I the only one having problems with this?

other people have posted that there has been a virus. there is NO VIRUS at all. someone submitted the file in question to norton and they sent back an e-mail saying that there was no worm, virus, malware, etc at all in the file

It is not a virus, but any xu files do hook system and other operations to draw on the game screen. This behavior can be misreported as a virus because of how it works.

Here is the fix I got for that issue. It is a Symantec site not mine.

From Symantec:

Downloading and Installing RapidRelease Definitions:
1. Open your Web browser. If you are using a dial-up connection, connect to any Web site, such as: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/
2. Copy and paste the address ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_u ... /sequence/ into the address bar of your Web browser and then press Enter.(this could take a minute or so if you have a slow connection)
3. Now select 52372 folder or the highest numbered folder. Open the folder.
4. Select the file symrapidreleasedefsi32.exe
5. When a download dialog box appears, save the file to the Windows desktop.
6. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the prompts.


This fixed the reporting issue on my machine but XU still won't run. Other machines haven't had this issue.

Sounds like your computer is having other problems.

Prob should do a windows reinstall.

Second machine encountered this issue last night, applied fix and all is well. Seems to only be related to NortonAntivirus, my ZoneAlarm Suites machines have not had this error.

YEa norton says its reporting a virus when there isnt one and you should update your definitions to fix it.
