What is the best job? : FFXI General Discussions

Here is the chance to back up your favorite job!!!

I think a RANGER is by far the deadliest job in Final Fantasy. I never realized how powerful a bow is until I saw a lvl 25 RDM shoot two arrows at a Leecher from a good distance and by the time the leecher got to him he swong his sword twice and it was dead. This doesn't tell anyone about the Ranger, only the Rangers best weapon - the bow. It is very expensive, but I know how to make gil, and i want the wide scan ability too.

My next job would be Samurai, one reason is I am on a "The Last Samurai" kick. But because i heard a SAM can do skillchains by themselves and I am an avid fan of skillchains. And I like cool swords and there armor is sweet looking.

Ok, let me hear what you guys think. I know people like them Dragoons and Dark Knights and Paladins are tight.

Sam can do 4 SCs and that is 5 ws. i think u have to do it to break ur lvl 70 cap. gotta do it to a guy and pass the test ^^.
Btw where did u c that rdm killing the leech?
Me too agree that rng is so far the best dmg dealer in the game.. but it is too exp... lol.
IMO, every job is impt and nothing much rules over each other. ^^

Lol, in my opinion they ar eall good, exept drk...as a war post 30 with GA i deal just as much dmg as a drk...i have proven this......dont argue about it lol...people only take war for subjob later..but take war all the way and it deals good dmg AND can reasonably tank well. So overall WAR, but it migth get boring so i like all other exept DRK....in play style i like all but DRK, BRD, and PLD. thats about it, i like all others

maybe u only saw the lousy drks with crappy equips. drk are heavy dmg dealers, just like drg, and stuff.

I know..i can deal jus as much dmg as drk post 30 WAR...with berserk...its fact....

One thing I am finding out, is that nobody wants a RDM. We are kind of too balanced and not strong in any area. We can always be a backup healer or fighter, but never a main role. I guess I was wrong when I picked this job. Well I am stuck with it now up until 30.

Where would you guys say the RNG and SAM fit on the dmg scale. Lets say everyone has the best equipment they can get.

I ultimately want my end job to be a Ranger. Samurai look cool but as far as full damage dealing capabilities...Ranger takes the cake. They are inherently expensive and most of the time...you'll feel like you're just shooting gil against your enemy.
Samurai...they have the ability to chain themselves with the help of their 2hr skill. They're armor is not that expensive at the lower levels either. Everybodies equipment gets expensive at the latter levels though.


Rangers deal the most damage but are expensive. (Love the guns)
Samurai fall into the mid damage category but are good for party skillchains (and look cool IMHO). Below DRK's and MNK's in the melee department (dmg wise).

Well I have decided to switch my jobs around after last nights performace. There was a RNG and a SAM in our group. The RNG did the most dmg out of the group, but in just over 2 hrs. he spent 5k in arrows. The SAM didn't waste any money and did very good dmg. I still have RNG blood, but I believe if I take SAM first I can save up gil and master myself in woodworking to better support myself.

im going to agree on that, becuase if the drk is using a sythe that has a delay of 444 and your war is using a sword ( most likly the decurions sword at lvl 30) it has a lower delay so it can hit more times in a period of time than the sythe. Im a lvl 35 war and it sucks, i was going to go all the way through with war, but no one ever invites you. So instead im going for sam. I hope this helps other people see your point lol.

thats kewl - Weak Drk w/o souleater|Lastresort oh and wait WAR SUBBED GETS BESERK!!! Cmon - Drk is Powerful if done correctly... Or you can Sub thf and get SA on top of it.... MY atk goes around 240 and i am only lvl 39 atm.... Only problem with a DRK is they can take the hits they Deal out...

Its like saying I can do as much DMG with my Hume BLM at 51 as a Taru BLM at 51 (cause i have +24 to Int) I mean cmon... thats not an argument. Strip down the War and Drk - I will do more Damage end of story...
