Hmm, to be able to tell you what class would suit you we'd have to know what you liked in the past.

one thing you might want to try to do is make sure the race/job you pick fits into the city you choose IE if you pick elvan/mnk in windy you will get a white belt or ir you pick taru/whm in windy you will get a nice ring.

try to pick a race/job that suits you but try to pick a city that suits your race/job

Bah. No way! Windurst forever.

Pick city by the description, I love windurst and will keep it as my home town forever! ;)
The extra item you get based on town is really not very important in the long run... Worst case you can buy it with Conquest Points.

picking starting city you like most > a rank 3 +1 int, +1 agi and +3mp ring, especially for 4000 conquest points... I could buy over 100 of these... (I should start using more warp scrolls!)

Granted, if you feel industrious you could always pick a city then move .

Anyway, the different starting rings are:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=750 (Huma, Galka in Bastok)
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=748 (Elvaan in San d'Oria)
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=749 (Tarutaru Mithra in Windurst)
It depends on your race if you get one or not.

The white belt you talk about is the job weapon, you get a belt since monks use hand to hand... WHM get club, BLM staff etc.

Tault_joejoe, honestly, ignore the above. State what style of play you prefer and we can recommend from that.

i cant help you with jobs, that all depends on your play style, but i can help you with the races and where to start.

If you like being the evil empire with the most people and resources, the kindom of Sandoria is right for you.

If you like being the oppressed race with quality over quantity, Bastok is right for you.

If you like being the friendly people that everyone hates on the inside because they always win, the Windurst is right for you.

hope it helps you out some

It's fascinating this is the only forum I've seen where people claim the ring is above rank 3...

It's Rank 3 - The proof is in the pudding: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=750

The only caveat I will add is this example:

From starting country - You can purchase the ring at rank 3 for 4000 CP

Not from the country that you want to buy the ring from - Rank 3 but costs Rank 4 CP but your current nation has to be in a position higher than the nation you intend to buy from.

well guys thanks for giving me this i went out of town so i wasnt able to reply but so far in the games ive played i seem to like the crafter system that creates the lower level materials used in other crafting.. for example in everquest 2 it would be... alchemest where you use your lowest lvl materials and those materials were used to create everything else in the game.... since i dunt like relying on other crafters to create items so i can make stuff.........

anyone who made it past that part i thank you... looks sorta long

as far as the fighting class ive liked either archer or fighter.. something like that but id love if u led me in the right direction......

if u need more just ask and i know everything i said prolly isnt all in the game but id love it if u guys would tell me wut to do hehe =D

EQ <-- Lots of EQ fans play FF11 since they dont like EQ2 because of the Extra Payments SONY put on it.

From what i heard people are pretty upset EQ2 since their are allot of payments ontop of the monthy fees.

If you like making your own things you have no problems doing it in FF11.
FF11 is definetly your game. Is basically what you wanted EQ2 to be but without all the extra payments.

Fighters
Warriors (Tank Lvl 10- 30)
Paladins (Tank Lvl 10 -75) Advanced jobs need LVL 30 + Quest
Dark Knight (Damge Dealer or DD) Advanced
Thieve (DD)
Monk (DD)
Ninja (DD and Tank) 2nd Most Expensive Advanced Job
Beastmaster (Mob Tame Pets soo DD) Advanced Job **** Soloable**** need White mage for sub though
Dragoon (Dragon Pet so DD) Advanced Job

Archers
Rangers (DD) Most Expensive Class and its and Advanced Job
Warrior
Thieve
Ninja

I hope this helps you

1 more thing the Races

Mithra ( Female Cats very good Dex and Agi make good warriors. Only problem is you might get hit on by guys if you are a good roleplayer. )

Elfs (Good fighters and Archers)

Glakans Best Fighters ( ONLY MALES i guess that is why they are all DOGS  )

Tarutaru (MAGES)

Hume (ALL In ONe)

Again Female characters are attacked by more than mobs you have been warned! :!:
