Programming with memory. : FFXI General Discussions

Well...Been fiddling around with FFXI and a few hex editors...It seems finding values is simple enough...And I can do some programming, but I've never tried to write a program that does anything to the memory before...

So~o, since it seems some people here are knowledgable about such things...I was wondering, does anyone know where I might find some tutorials or some other learning resource regarding memory reading/writing from within a program? (And please, please not in C/C++ unless that's all you know of...I hate that language.) Or anything that can help me learn to do this...

Any info would be appreciated.
