L2 just released a patch that includes the use of GameGuard from nprotect. It says that it detects programs that access memory or directx commands. Can you verify this and advise us if we can use this program safely?

Currently XU IS detected by nProtect. You might have to wait til RC 14 to get around that protection.

This may be a over simplification, but what if xu called itself something like "word" or normal.dot or some other program that nprotect allows to run will l2 is executing?

I'm using the nProtect as a base to get the security patch working. From my experience, nProtect is alot smarter than just the name of the app.

Out curiosity, how would you test that nprotect does or does not detect xu? Is this a matter of trying things and watching the traffic that nprotect tries to communicate back to the mothership? It would be a bummer if a fix was thought to work and then people get banned.

After I post the security patch and admin incorporates it into Rc14, there will stll be no guarantees. It will just be alot safer than it currently is.

That doesnt mean that they will not patch around it, it just means that most kinds of detection will be thwarted.

Only time will tell if it is successfull or not.

I haven't run xu since the c2 patch. I am looking forward to testing whatever you come up with that would allow me to continue to use XU under nprotect!
