this was my favorite section and it seems to have died so a topic I say:

The Raids on places selling modded xboxs

http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep ... yVJWYQ.php

Personally I think what you do with something you own is your business. It's like putting a new CPU in you computer then installing some software.... Well, yes, there are pirates out there but, there always will be no matter what. So I think this is crap.

I might be on the list for the second round so I got rid of like... everything... Whats your take on the subject?

Its not like swapping your CPU. Do you "circumvent measures that control access to copyrighted works" when you replace your CPU?

I think it should absolutely be illegal, you simply cannot make exceptions when it comes to stealing of copyrighted material.

Off topic: I agree with you that this section is great. I was glad when I saw this topic, because debating is great. Recently I've had to go to EON to get my serving of intelligent discussion (mainly in the debates discussion) Does anyone else think posting a few debate topics (or whatever, as long as it involves intelligent discussion) in this section and seeing where it takes off from there is a good idea?

I dont know. If there was a way to make it so its just region unlocked and not pirating the games i guess i would be fine with it. Buts its not. So either way its stealing.

Rebuttal:

17 USC ยง 1201 (The anti-circumvention clause of the DMCA) states:

(2) No person shall manufacture, import, offer to the public, provide, or otherwise traffic in any technology, product, service, device, component, or part thereof, that -

( A ) is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title;

( B ) has only limited commercially significant purpose or use other than to circumvent a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title; or

( C ) is marketed by that person or another acting in concert with that person with that person's knowledge for use in circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title.

Mods were made for homebrew (1 problem... you can also pirate games because there is no way around it while enabling homebrew/imports  )

The modchips that were being taken as evidence couldn't pirated games(Additional software is needed)

Additionally:
If I have a CPU(motherboard, etc),a computer, I can rip copy-protected games can't I, but I could also download homemade games or install games from other regions that I own.

Notes:
I's a gray area but, they've decided and there's no way around it... It makes me mad that they would do the raids now considering they don't make xboxs(or games for them) any more. Although they did re-open a repair service for xboxs :D , because some repairs required modchips.

Another side note: There is a region free patch for the xbox dash... but it has to be moddded to use the patch

I think it was probably enough that they could be used to pirate games. Who knows?

Additionally:
If I have a CPU(motherboard, etc),a computer, I can rip copy-protected games can't I, but I could also download homemade games or install games from other regions that I own.

Thats true, but then again, your not modding the computer in order to rip copy-protected games, so it is a little different.

Yep.

I havent done a whole lot of reading on the subject, so I guess your the expert here, but stealing is stealing.

Well maybe back in the day with snes and nintendo 64 it was diff. But now adays 90% of mod chips at least are just used for pirated games. If anything companies should just make all systems region unlocked and then mod chips have no ground to stand on.

yet having open region on games has the problem of a release being sold to any country accidentally which some countrys will have more strict standards on a game so that has to be removed. like how mario party 8 got recalled in the UK for one word which over here means "silly" but over there it means mentally retarded. region differences prevent the us games which doesnt have that restriction being played over there which has that "bad" word.

Well i think the main reason is for US to import Asia games. And EU to import US games.
