Does XUnleashed for FFXI work without Windower? : FFXI General Discussions

I joined back in October 2005 and finally got XUnleashed working by having it call Windower.

Now Windower 3.21 doesn't work and 3.01 has problems with Windows while 3.2 has problems with plug-ins.

Is it possible to run XUnleashed and FFXI without Windower and if it is - HOW? (yes, I tried it without Windower and POL runs fine. the problem occurs when POL calls FFXI. I get the "send a problem / termination to Microsoft" dialog box.)

Most likely you have a custom resolution after having used the windower. Can you play the game without xu / windower? or does it always crash when you click play?

I FIRST tried FFXI via windowing using X-Unleashed without Windower 3.21. Once I gave up on X-Unleashed I moved to Windower.

To answer your question: FFXI run fine without Windower. Unfortunately, it takes up the whole screen and I can't use other programs at the same time I'm playing FFXI.

I set my resolution using the FFXI Configuration program to 1440x900.

So, I again ask: How do I get X-Unleashed to run FFXI in a window -- without Windower 3.21?

Tried this but it doesn't work.

When POL calls FFXI, the screen goes blank for a second or two, the desktop returns, and I get a dialog asking me to send an error/abend report to Microsoft. POL returns and FFXI doesn't start.

Just wondering: How does one use X-Unleashed to run FFXI in a window (without Windower 3.21)?

Try setting you resolution to 1024x768. Just in case it works.

OK, I'll give it a try and let you know. I'm using 3.20 right now and am on a quest with friends.

Oh and just in case, please start thinking of other stuff I can do to try and get it working.

try 3.22 now that its out

New xunleashed just came out today might want to try that.

Other resolutions may work. If you get the 1024x768 resolution to work, you might try some others. I have not tested with specific resolutions. If you do get it to work, please send a post to the BugTracker with what resolutions worked and which ones didnt so we can do some further testing.
