AoE Lowbie Guide. : World of Warcraft General Discussions

Hey guys,
I got a lvl 28 mage with some decent rares. I have seen some movies about AoE farming. Isn't there a text guide so i can see what i have to hotkey and how i farm mobs the best?

I was totally inspirated by this movie because its very usefull and it tells you good how to farm. But im looking more for text so i can see what i have to hotkey like A is Frostnova or something like that.

ok I can field this one real quick... There are several good ways to AoE, and you can either go down the fire tree or the frost tree... Look at the talents, find out which you like best... At your level either way you go, the basic break down will be this...

Throw up a mana shield. Then you run into a group of 5 or 6 mobs, then you blink out to get some distance, you then run in a large circle but make sure they don't catch you by adjusting how far and long you run around... Doing this makes them come together closer, once they are all stacked use frost nova then go a little distance against and flamestrike, then arcane explosion until the nova breaks... Once the nova breaks use cone of cold, and they should all be dead by then. Keep in mind you want to kill green mobs, preferably 3 or 4 levels below you for this to work effectively.

So here's a little review:

Mana Shield then:
Step 1: Jump into a group of mobs
Step 2: Blink out of the group
Step 3: Run around in circles to get mobs together
Step 4: Frost Nova
Step 5: Back up out of their melee range and flame strike
Step 6: Arcane Explosion until they break from frost nova
Step 7: Cone of cold to slow, then Arcane Explosion again until death...

The trick is you need to be awake, and run just far enough ahead of them to be out of THEIR melee range while keeping them in YOUR Arcanes Explosion range... Since you have them Cone of Colded they will move much slower than you and thus you can do this. The same holds when they are frost nova'd.

Frost Spec Steps
Talent Build:
For frost to be beneficial in AoEing, you need a few talents...
1. 3/3 Frostbite, 3/3 perma frost, 3/3 Improved Blizzard
That last one is the killer here, you need that for blizzard to be a good substitute.

Mana Shield then:
Step 1: Jump into a group of mobs
Step 2: Blink out of the group
Step 3: Run around in circles to get mobs together
Step 4: Frost Nova
Step 5: Back up out of their melee range and Blizzard
Step 6: Continually Blizzard
Step 7: Cone of cold to slow when neccessary (if ever, with improved frost nova that should already be up and with 3/3 improv blizz they shouldn't beable to catch you.)

Fire Spec Steps
Mana Shield then:
Step 1: Jump into a group of mobs
Step 2: Blink out of the group
Step 3: Run around in circles to get mobs together
Step 4: Frost Nova
Step 5: Back up out of their melee range and flame strike
Step 6: Arcane Explosion until they break from frost nova
Step 7: Cone of cold to slow, then Arcane Explosion again until death...

Fire spec is the same, except now you have blast wave if CoC is on CD and you need to slow them down again, flame strike gets much better down the fire tree because of improved flame strike which nets you a 15% greater chance to crit with it.


If you want to test this out at lvl 28-29, go to wetlands and go down past the greenbelt to the mongrel/gnoll camps and run into one, should beable to gather 5-8 gnolls, then follow the steps and try it out. Alternatives to fire/frost is to obviously go down arcane tree and pick up stuff like Arcane Impact, Arcane Concentration, and Arcane Potency... Going down the arcane tree will probably speed up your PvE grinding, but greatly hinder you as far as PvP goes, which is why most people opt to go fire/frost for a healthy balance.

Frost nova
Arcane Explosion
Flame strike
Cone of Cold
Evocation
Blink
Mana Shield

If your frost, same but also Blizzard

and

If your fire, same but also blast wave.


Personally I just put them on one of my other empty bars specially for when I AoE grind, in spots 1-7, and I also have a 5 button mouse, so I put blink and nova on my extra mouse buttons, but you can add them from 1-7 also...

Great movie...the only problem I has was the low res.
Can anyone post a high res maybe with just the low run and the
high run?

I am on a pve server with my mage and trying full frost only level 25 so far.
Pretty easy, is this build only for aoe grinding, any good for questing?

Of course from what is demonstrated it would be faster than questing.

Man I need to get a little higer and respec this looks like fun.

I wondered if this was a hack chr or something. I saw in land of the dead that he cast frost nova 2 times in 2 seconds....
And I have no idea what gear he was using because at times I never saw the mana bar move after casting a bunch of spells.
Of course most of the time he is not casting, a bliz every once in a while will not use much.
You said mana shield, but his health bar was way low for him to be using that.

Overall the video was great, SUPER music for the mood and I like his outtakes at the end.. 10/10 for this one.

Check your Frost Talents, In the middle there is a talent named Frost Snap. This removes all the cooldown on your frost spells. In case some mobs, like in the movie, resist a spell like frost nova.

I got a lvl 28 build made up. Best AoE build for lvl 28.

Thanks I wondered how he reset so fast.
I think that the problem with the low rez movies is you miss things like this
because you can't see exactly what is going on...just some little dots running around, or full screen a blurr runing after another blur.

him I can't wait to hear. I made 26 last night and working to get to
28.

And no im currently folowing a circuit in Duskwood. I am almost level 30 now. Notice that i was level 28 around 15:00 PM. So pretty fast.
