A proxy pylon is when a player puts a pylon in your base at the games beginning off to the side. then they turn their gateways into warpgates so they can teleport in a bunch of units to kill you. Now most people would think an early scouting for these, and attacking it with an scv would be your best bet to stop it, however the easiest way to actually stop a player from doing this is to build a bunker.

Put a bunker near the middle of of your base so it can protect your scvs and skip on gas until you have 4 marines in the bunker and another 2-6 then use them to kill off the pylon and salvage your bunker.

Its the best bet because it wastes their units, minerals, and a pylon. While you havent lost a single unit and you can salvage the bunker for more resources.
