Mending is not needed when using a vampiric weapon (The energy cost isn't worth it imo ). Just bring a skill such as Frenzy, Flurry, Tiger's Fury, Bestial Fury (factions skill, will be available in a week) along with you and it will offset the health degeneration.

Ex:
W/ +33% Faster Attack Rate stance
Degenerating 2 Health per second (1pip=2health)
Attacking once every .93 seconds gaining 3 health
After 60 seconds:
Health lost=120 Health
Health gained=193 Health
