Yes, as the posts above say. Its not permanent. Gagaiwas reported it lasted about 2 hours.
For me it was less, but i used a shuttle, so possibly it was reset then.

It does work with looted clothes as well. One thing to note/expand on.

When you use a master cloak, or a knight robe (i use these since they are easy to obtain and I mostly pve with this) You will actually be able to wear stat clothes you would NOT be able to wear with he robe you destroyed.

This means that you will still have the armor protection, but you could wear hats, shirts, pants, gloves, boots, and all jewelry even though you could not wear that many stat items with the robes. So you have allot more stats than you could possibly have with the robe still on.

Wow people dont know how to read. The same question was asked like 3 times lol. This seams pointless because basically u get to keep ur master cloak stats, thats it nothing can change about the armor in your favor. Then you can throw on a 3 stat 35 jacket but you loose the master cloak in a few hours, thats not worth it. Plus the like 200 or what ever con that the master cloak gives, which u cant keep isnt worh a 3 stat 35. So all in all there is no point in doing this, other than for looks, which a master cloak for a few hours of looks is not worth. It might be worth it if you could find some kind of bracers a jedi could wear, and socket it, but not for a few hours.
