There truley is no best endgame character it is all gear dependent, pick a class you like and level it and get the best gear you can and if you know your class well you will do fine. I am a 60 priest disp/holy build(smite build). I have very good gear and i dont lose to many people at all regardless of class, I have 6k health with fort and plus 486 to damage i beat most classes not because I'm so much better but i have better gear than most.

Shamies take some skill to play.

Pallies need good gear to be good.

Mages can unload trucks of deamage and AoE.

Rouges own at BG but have been nurfed for instances to balance them.

Lock really just own in general (DOT in bg DOT in MC & BWL).

Druid will go to alot of intances cuase of heals.

Priests even more intances for heals.

On my server warrs are always needed as tank.

For Raiding i would suggest priest. They are so high in demand that all you ahve to do is say LFG for where ever you wish to go and boom your in a group.
