To anyone who levels priests holy specced, warriors protection spec, or hunters marksmanship spec... you are stupid. Its a 1g respec cost that you can do 55-60 for end game instances, up until then it doesnt matter unless you want to twink up bg's with aimedshot or something.
Spec's aside playing the class to the best of its ability with a solo spec I feel the order goes something like this -
Hunter > Lock > Druid > Rogue > Mage > Warrior > Shaman
My priest and pally are both below 20 so Im not going to comment on them yet. As you can see mana users are top 2, but druids are by far the BEST class to grind with no down time. Their dps just isnt high enough to get them to the top, although the are the easiest class to level. Anything which can heal whatever is taking damage (hunter's pet, lock's VW, druid caster -> druid bear) without having to regen or pause will be a fast grinder. Mages have to burn too much of their mana to really make them good in this area as there is downtime after just about every fight unless you cut your dps back with wands. Warriors... die too easily, no oh !@#$%^&* buttons or healing, sure they only have to wait for health to get back up and that can be done with a bandage but they are not as powerful solo as other classes with levelling gear. Rogues are the same but with less armor + an oh !@#$%^&* button. As far as shaman go... maybe Im just not playing it right but I cant stand levelling my shaman, taking direct damage with leather armor isnt fun, add in the fact that theyre a caster....
Just my 2 cents, but I will say that 1-25 or so is a horrible indication of how well a class is going to level, if you cant get to 25 with aclass in a short amount of time, you probably shouldnt continue playing. 30-42 is the test of all the classes as that is the worst time for low #'s of quests, and low level loot and should be the section you use to benchmark how easy a class is to level.
