Spook Camp : FFXI General Discussions

I am a level 57 rng and i use the strategy below to make money. It can be very rewarding and will support high-maintinence jobs. I would say lvls 1-65 could do it and make what they would consider a decent profit. Campin Spook, I highly suggest this as a way to make money at low levels. If you play for Ps2, which prolly like 1/100 of you do, then your set. If you have for computer, you've got a problem. Ps2 can see spook prolly .5-1 whole second b4 comp can. this is BIG. If you on comp then what you do is download hydruhunter and run that for spook. Gets me claims most of time. Now for spook itself, the first pop which is at i think 20:00, havent camped in a few weeks. On this one you must be careful, either use bot or tab thru mobs to claim. There are several macros that you can use, one of them very useful, but im not at liberty to share it as i have promised a friend of mine i wouldnt. Next pop is 24:00/0:00, this pop is very easy. If people have been killing the mobs in the area, all you must do is spam voke/shadowbind/charm/etc. For the third pop, it all depends on how fast spook #2 was killed. If he popped l8, and was killed respectively then ur SOL for #3. However if he does pop, which is at 2:00-4:00 (normally 3:00-4:00) he has a very random pop time, then here is another one where you can spam your provoke. Unfortunately, undead spawn not too long b4 him, so u must kill them fast to use this method. Ok, now that weve gotten that done, things you must know: Shadowbind does in fact claim faster than voke. The time diff is about .2 seconds, but as you will learn w/ expirience is that this makes all the difference. Golden rule w/ spook, if you do not have a cable/dsl or higher, then dont camp. You will almost never get claim. As for the drops, 80k+ on most servers as far as im aware. You can get this drop fairly ez w/o TH but i would suggest it just because it helps (i dont use it). If ever you go thru a night and the same person gets claims all 3 times, i highly suggest you give up for that day. You needn't be higher than 20 id say to kill spook. This is a high competition mob, but campers tend to be friendly so it can be a fun expirience ^^ As for the macro i mentioned earlier, Test out different things, the only hint ill give you is that it has sumthin to do w/ the tombstone. I.Reducing Lag
-Set down all your setting on your comp by using both the out of game and In game-config.
-Cancel all other programs including windowers and such.
-Try to make sure if you use a router, that you are the only person on it.
-You may also try deleting all monster files in the area excluding the spook.

II.Spawn Times
-Basicly the faster it's killed, the better.
-The Spook is a sure spawn at 20:00-20:55.
-The second Spook is also a sure spawn and will spawn from 23:35-0:55.
-Very rarley the second spook pops from 0:55-2:00.
-The third Spook will not always spawn but when it does it is from 3:30-4:00.
-The third Spook usually only spawns if the second was KILLED from was killed before 0:15 or although very rarley (not worth sticking around usually) it can spawn a third time if it spawned from 0:30-0:55.
-If the second spook happens to pop before 23:35 (or very close to that time) it will probably spawn a third from 3:00-3:30.
-the Spook does not spawn from 4:00-20:00

III.Drop Rates
-Treasure Hunter is nice to have if you can have it.
-Its not really worth camping during regular moon phases from 30%-70% unless you have time and TH.
-During full and new moon drop rate without TH is probably 1/3.
-During 0% moon and 100% moon the drop rates about 1/2.
-Theres a rumor that by killing it with physical attacks it will have a better chance of droping (never tested it since I was a low level whm)

IV.Camping Methods
-Use either Provoke (if it's the best you can get), Charm (my personal favorite since its faster than provoke with a recharge time of 15 seconds), or Chi-Blast (although its the fastest it has a long reload time so I recomend bringing something to back it up).
-To spam select the job trait you want to use under you abilities menu and rapidly press both you enters as fast a you can during a spawn period.
-If a monster is blocking you and you do not want the risk moving get it so your ability is in select target mode and when you see the spook spawn immediatley press tab or F8 (F8 is recommended since it wont target tombstone or wyverns) than enter.
-Alternatley if you are on the PS2 or can find one for the PC buy a Autofire controller and just hold down the X button or button assigned to enter.
-If someone pulls monsters in front of you or you pull monsters in front of someone go to your ability then get into select target mode and thentab around using the tab key and 0 key on the numpad until you select the spook than just press enter to do your ability on it.
-You can spam a Target Npc macro to spam by assigning the Macro to every key you can holding down either alt or ctrl (whichever you assigned the macros to) and by spamming every button you can.
-Although I have not tried it your compass may show you when the Spook spawns earlier than your actual view.
-Get your ability in select target mode and when the spook spawns press tab or F8 (F8 is recommended since it won't target NPC's when the spook spawns) and then enter.
-Spamming or using F8 is recommending over tabbing except in the case where there are mutiple monsters around the tombstone.

V.Miscellaneous
-I find the best time to camp is between 10:00 am-3:00 pm.
-By targeting and talking the ??? on the platform you can be sent down to a place with level 60+ monsters.
-To train one of these monster all you need to do is get argo> run to the stairs while trying not to get hit> after getting to the stairs you should zone back up where you can then train the monster onto spook campers using your own method.
-From 4:00-20:00 you can camp the Crypt Ghost (Martial Slacks) Goblin Gruel (Valor Earing I think) or you can farm bones from skeletons, onions from gobs, or bat wings from bats.
-My favorite camping spots for the Spook will be displayed in this picture.

-You can find out how many time you spam per second by spamming your playtime and counting how many messages you got per second.
-If you want to try to stop make bots less efficent you can; make a character named spook, pull a monster, wyvern, or beast infront of the spooks spawn (these methods do not work on all bots).

Nice gide and quite accurate, however unless this is the asshat zone I can't say I approve of any guide that advocates training. Simply learn to play better and you won't need those tactics.

Are u seriuos. I guess you have never been trained because you get a nm that allot of people are hunting.

Maybe not in spook. But higher nm or hnm. It is very common that someone will trian you to kill you because u got the nm. I have heard of them chasing you until they are killed and then the mob attacks you also they escape right in front of u leaving u a nice suprise.

You have to know how to get around and deal with cheaters so what he said is true.

In the spook allot of times you might pull a bat or a skeletong and if u are fast enough you usually can still get the spook.

At no time did i see him say to bring in 20 gobs in the area which would be considered a train.

Hey, nice guide man. Kicks the crap outta mine but uhh, is it possible to delete the other monster files so that you can only see spook? Man, spamming would be soo much easier if i did that.. Also, could you explain how to? or just at least where to go? Would help me out a lot, thanks ^^

Well it makes sense but its not referring to anyone now. Someone had said that the guide was bad because it supported training. So that is why my last reply talks about training.

I leave it on just so no one ask the same ? again since the Guide is good especailly for PC that are struggling with income in the game.

hey, lets just say i know a way to make it that well, u have 100% chance of claiming spook , unless some1 else is using this method / u have a slow connection.
