When you toggle into combat mode it makes you take a small step forward and when you toggle back out of combat mode you are at the new coordinates.

If you use a macro program to toggle combat mode fast enough you can actually "run" faster than any other toon even while snared/rooted just by taking small stepps really, really fast.

Just setup a macro that toggles combat as fast as possible and whenever you get in trouble activate it and you should be able to get away from anyone without trouble.
