Mage AoE grinding : World of Warcraft General Discussions

IAE = Improved Arcane Explosion
FN = Frost Nova
CoC = Cone of Cold
AoE = Area of Effect
IAM = Improved Arcane Missles

This guide is only based off what I have done and what worked for me.

You wont be grinding to much at first mostly because its not that effective for mana and talent wise in my opinion.

To begin your talents start with 5 points in IAM, 5 concentration, 5 IAE and 1 evocation. This will take you to 26. Once you get 5 in IAE things become much easier. Now is when it depends if you are horde or alliance. I have no expierence with AoE grinding with alliance so this will be for horde. Start by going to hillsbrad fields. Here there are multiple farms full of farmers for you to grind. Id suggest only doing a few at first to get the hang of it.

The sequence I went through was this,
Mana shield
Run through 5-6 mobs
FN and back away
Flame strike
IAE
When they reach you CoC
IAE till dead

You will die the first few times until you can get ahold of doing this. With IAE you will have to be semi close to the mobs for it to hit. Just dont get to close wink

28 is where I would respec as you get the 2nd rank of blizzard and frost becomes much easier and safer to gind with. Talents should look like this

Frost Talents (19 points)

# Permafrost - 5/5 points
Increases the duration of your chill effects by 3 seconds.

# Improved Frost Nova - 2/2 points
Reduces the cooldown of your Frost Nova spell by 4 seconds.

# Winter's Chill - 3/3 points
Increases the power of your chill effects by slowing the target's movement by an additional 10%.

# Improved Blizzard - 3/3 points
Adds a chill effect to your Blizzard spell. This effect lowers the target's movement speed to 35% of normal. Lasts 1.50 seconds.

# Cold Snap - 1/1 point
When activated, this spell finishes the cooldown on all of your frost spells.

# Piercing Ice - 3/3 points
Increases the damage done by your frost spells by 6%.

# Arctic Reach - 2/2 points
Increases the range of your Frostbolt spell and the radius of your Frost Nova and Cone of Cold spells by 20%.

At around 30, you can go to arathi highlands and farm Dabyries farmstead for even better exp.
Frost sequence is;
Mana Shield
Gather mobs
FN, Run away some so the outer circle barely hits mobs
Blizzard
Blizzard
This point they are at you, CoC or FN
Than blizzard one more time if need be.
