Protect yourself from forum scams : Star Wars Galaxies Discussions

I just I had experience with an auction on SOE forums. I bid on on several items that were sold as 1 lot. I won the auction. The seller edited his original post after I won the auction to swap out an item that was valuable with an item that was worthless. Nice try! However, he offered them to my vendor in a bag so I couldn't see the items as well. Good trick. So I buy the bag When he came online I basically told him he did a good job scamming me and I indicated to him that the server would know of this scam. He tried to tell me that he did it on accident or some lame nonsense, but in the end he was worried about his forum reputation. Not surprising since on my server many good cities with malls ban people for scamming like this. Afterwards, I realized if I had just quoted the auction from his OP when I bid on the items I would have better proof later if he tried to rip me off. So thats my suggestion to anyone that uses the forums to buy items. Its simple, you may already do this, but it is good proof if someone tried to scam you, and for many people even scammers will be worried about being recognized on the forums as such.

Yep, anytime I bid on something I always quote the OP in my first bid, saves for trouble down the road.

Good idea. I dont usually think to do this. I think many new players dont know of the whole reputation thing in the trade forum, nor think how it may affect their gameplay if they are known as a scammer. They just see an opportunity because it looks easy.
