Sure, why not?

Runs pretty slow though unless you have a very kick !@#$%^* comp.

I run up to 5 accounts on my computer. But this is a very well known technique, what's the point? Unless you're trying to say 3 characters ON THE SAME account, which really isn't possible, other than have your other 2 characters there but LD.

Ya this is easy. I run up to 5 at times and my comp still runs hella fast :) I believe there is a post in one of the confirmed sections that will tell you how to set it up if you havent done that already :)

Is there some other trick to running more than two efficiently? Or is it just PC dependent?

I'm not sure if this has been nerfed or not. I recently had my computer upgraded, and after the upgrade, I had to reinstall SWG from scratch. Before this, I was typically running 4 instances or more at the same time, and after reinstalling and putting the user.cfg file back where I had it before, I was no longer able to run more than 1 instance at a time.

I tried writing a new user.cfg file, and had a friend email me a working file, both methods of which failed to allow a second instance. I placed these files in the right SWG folder too, so it should have worked. I followed both the instructions on this site and from my friend over TS.

If I missed something in the reinstall, then disregard this post, but if I was doing it right, then beware reinstalling SWG, you may end up not being able to log in more than 1 account per computer.

I won't be back again until Monday, so if anyone has any suggestions or questions for me, I won't be able to respond until then.

No its not nerfed. I have seen it you have BITS turned on (background downloading) the multi instances of SWG sometimes don't work. Turn that feature off and you may be able to use multiple logins again.

Once the user file is in place, the only limit to the number of instances you can run is the number your computer can handle.

I tried what you suggested. I turned background downloading off for 2 of my accounts, 1 at a time, then closed each completely before opening the other. Then I opened my main's account, let it load all the way, then I ALT-TAB'ed to Windows. Then I started up 1 of my alt's accounts, and tried to start from the launch pad, and a few seconds later I got the message that there was an instance already running.

The user.cfg file was the same one that my friend had emailed me, the one he has been using for some time without trouble. This didn't start until I had to reload SWG from scratch after upgrading my PC.

Is there anything I may have missed?

I sure as hell am not going to claim nerf now, since it appears that this is only a problem on my computer and no one else's. Unless SOE nerfed my computer! Damn SOE!!! :P

Seems to me the SWG client isn't seeing your user.cfg file. Lets make sure everything is in the right spot just to be sure.

The user.cfg should be located C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies
Make certain its not in some old Testcenter folder or the Launcher folder.

Make certain the user.cfg is not named user.cfg.txt with txt hidden from sight.

Make certain the file says
[SwgClient]

allowMultipleInstances=true

And check the case.

Good luck

In the text in the file, it says:

[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true
disableCutScenes=1

Two things I see different between my file and what you wrote. The first is there is no empty line between the first and second lines, and the other is that I have cut scenes disabled. Would either of these affect the user.cfg file from working?

Also, when I tried to write the file myself, I saved it as

File name: user.cfg
Save as type: All Files
Encoding: ANSI

I read on the SWG forums to make sure it was all files instead of txt file, or it would save as the wrong type. I'm not sure which encoding was supposed to be used, so I went with the default, ANSI.

The other encoding options were:

Unicode
Unicode big endian
UTF-8

Most of this is another language to me, since it's beyond my limited programming expertise (I have all those points allocated to goofing off with my computer, not programming it hehe).

Maybe this might help explain what's going on, I hope.

Oh yeah, and I double checked on the file's location.

E:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies

E: is the drive I save all my games on. I have several HD's on my computer, some internal, some external.
