In the EULA, which requires you to accept before installing the game, it states:

"You may not create, facilitate, host, link to or provide any other means through which the Game may be played by others, such as through server emulators"

yes, thats why the code for SWGEMU was created from scratch, its not taking it from the server.

No, they didnt start from scratch they reversed engineered a server, read the terms and conditions, its illegal.

you mean like copy there work and release a "classic server"? I guess if a SWGEmu was acutally released and SOe notices the numbers flocking to it they may rethink there approach and realise theres a lot of money to be made from a classic server. Or they will shut it down and give us another abortion like the NGE.

Its not illegal to reverse engineer a protocol. They didnt hack SOE servers and reverse the binary, they made the server based on logic and reversing the transport layer protocol... no laws against that. If they was to infringe the SWG/SOE/Sony/Lucasarts copyright by releasing pirated client downloads then they would qualify for a fat law suit from em :p
