I can see how the game would be pretty fun for the new players, since the vision the developers have had since then has remained fairly consistant. It was a "sandbox" game when I first started (feb 2005), was pretty much still that during the CU, now it's more directed/instanced based, so myself (and a lot of other vets) have had a hard time adapting to the direction of the game. Before, it was pretty much "make your own fun," now it's "here's something to do we hope you find fun," and some have taken that as a sort of dumbing down of the game (but in reality, everyone complained about the lack of content pre-NGE and pre-CU, so that's ironic in a way). Me personally, I've adapted, and still find ways to make the game fun for myself and my guild (partially by trying to find ways to break the game, heh heh).
I've pretty much rambled here, but my overall point is that I'm glad there are new players getting hooked on the game, and I'm willing to bet that in six months or a year from now, you'll remember your first time in Tansirii station, your first time in the legacy quest, etc. with a smile, just like I remember joining my first spin group or when I got visited by the old man. It really is a "good" game that's trying to become "great" again, and attracting (and KEEPING) new players is going to be a huge part of that.
