Is it possible to level a ent to 90, grind a pet to 90 then change to combat profession and have the pet level 90 but combat character level 5? If so is it possible to level like this?

Yes...should work fine for you

Probably not:
a.you cannot have a pet higher in level than yourself.
b. You need at least 10 lvls to in order to be able to use expertise points (you need at least one in BM to call out a pet)

It might work if you already have the pet called out when you change your profession, but as soon as you log out, you will not be able to call the pet out again until you're CL90.

Re-read his methodology for leveling.
1) Level ent to 90
2) Level pet to 90
3) Switch to combatant
4) Level combatant toon to 90, will need to wait until CL10 to call pet.

Within the last 2 months I called and used a pet that was several levels higher than my combatant toon. I was a level 90 crafter with a level 84 pet then went back to a level 82 combatant. The pet will continue to gain XP but will not level up until you are the same level as it is. You will see the XP go over 100% until you reach its level. it will then level up and again continue to gain XP beyond 100% until you level again. So on and so on.

Will the character gain xp from letting a pet do all the killing though?

say the lvl 90 pet kills a lvl 10 npc will you get the same xp as if you killed it and not the pet???

pets must be within 5 levels above you to be called.
